INSTITUTE OF STRATEGIC THINKING (SDE)

SDE is the center of thought of ’New Turkey’, which is taking firm steps towards its strategic position in the geography of civilization and its historical realpolitik mission on the axis of common human values; independence, freedom, justice, peace, development and equity. Founded on March 3, 2009, SDE operates as an affiliate of the Strategic Thinking and Research Foundation (SDAV) and is a civilian think tank based on common sense, scientific work, popular will and sovereignty to shape the Turkey of the future in the context of domestic and foreign policy.

The main goal of SDE is a Turkey that believes in the will of the nation, fundamental human rights and freedoms, that accepts the strong, free and independent existence of our country as a basis, that strengthens our national, spiritual and moral values, that is oriented towards the goal of a happy, prosperous and advanced society, that has achieved economic and technological development, and that has internalized the principles of a just social-legal state and a civil society with morals and virtues.

SDE aims to serve the empowerment of our country and the development of our people by embracing all segments of our society, making the most efficient use of and managing its human resources, knowledge, thought production and research capacity, policy, strategy and project development potential, international relations, communication and organizational skills.

A new Turkey, a new world where freedom, virtue, peace and justice prevail on the basis of common human values and respect for differences.

Mission
For a new Turkey and a new world;

To develop policies that will strengthen Turkey’s regional and global role in a process of restructuring the international system,

Contributing to the development of a civil and just constitutional system,

To find solutions for the development of international economic relations that will contribute to development and increase competitiveness on a global scale;

Supporting the expansion and deepening of New Turkey’s relations with its neighbors, Islamic countries and Muslims.

In line with these objectives, it aims to influence decision-makers and public opinion through monitoring, research, reporting, training, publications, lobbying, media activities and meetings.

Ethical Principles and Code of Ethics
SDE ACADEMY Journal observes and complies with the publication ethics standards and recommendations set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE-Committee on Publication Ethics) and ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors). Therefore, articles submitted for publication in SDE ACADEMY Journal must comply with international ethical standards. Based on the COPE and ICMJE publication ethics principles, editors, authors, and reviewers should abide by the following ethical rules.

Ethical rules that the editor (and associate editors) must follow:
- The editor (and associate editors) act according to scientific criteria and peer review of submitted manuscripts. The editor does not depend on the religion, language, race, ethnic origin, political opinion and gender of the authors.
- The editor (and associate editors) reject the article in case of ethical violations.
- The editor (and associate editors) keeps the information about the manuscripts submitted to the journal confidential and does not share this information with anyone other than the corresponding author, referees and the editorial board.
- The editor (and associate editors) ensures that the referee evaluation process is carried out by double blind refereeing.
- The editor (and associate editors) do not use the information presented in the article for their own research.
- The editor has full responsibility for rejecting, accepting or requesting changes in the manuscripts submitted to the journal.

 

Ethical rules that authors must follow:
- Authors should declare that the submitted work is original and has not been previously published.
- Authors must declare that the study is not currently under review in another journal.
- All authors named in the manuscript must have contributed to the experimental design and implementation of the study or to the analysis and interpretation of the data.
- Authors should provide access to the data sets used in the article if necessary.
- Authors are required to inform the editorial board if they realize that there is a significant error in their published manuscript.
- Authors must submit the ethics committee approval to the journal for studies that require ethics committee approval. If “Ethics Committee Approval” is required in the research, information about the Ethics Committee approval (name of the ethics committee, number and date of the approval document) should be specified in the article.

 

Ethical rules for reviewers:
- Reviewers should agree to review papers that they feel they have sufficient expertise in.
- Reviewers should agree to review papers that they feel they can evaluate in a timely and adequate manner.
- Reviewers should respect the confidentiality of peer review and should not disclose any information about a manuscript during or after the review process, beyond what is published.
- Reviewers should not use information obtained during the review process for their own or others’ advantage.
- Reviewers should report suspected plagiarism or other ethical violations to the editorial board of the journal.
- Reviewers should not review in situations where there may be a conflict of interest.
 

Core Activities
In Turkey, which is restructuring its institutions in the process of change and is at the center of the international global power struggle, one of the main functions of SDE is to generate ideas, develop policies and propose solution strategies for the main domestic and foreign strategic goals and problems. In this context, SDE aims to draw alternative strategies, prepare projects, conduct research, publish reports, analyses and dossiers, conduct training and lobbying activities through national and international events in order to support the necessary reforms and contribute to the proactive opening process required by the New Turkey vision in foreign policy:

Strategic Activity Areas
The objectives set out in SDE’s three-year strategic plan are divided into five main programs, each of which is headed by a coordinator and staffed by experts, assistants and interns. Planned activities are carried out by project groups under the supervision of program coordinators. In addition, Study Councils and Research Centers are unique fields of activity of SDE.
